I have about 24,000 photos on my phone right now. A massive amount, right!?!? Most of it is content for blog posts that I have never used over the years. Content my husband repeaetedly asked me when I was planning on using. Obviously, all these years I was waiting for this very precise moment in time, when many of us find ourselves locked indoors to share…

Obviously, lol, my subconscious mind knew all along.

I’m going to share these memories with you all as inspiration for trips you can take in Italy when all of this is behind us. I’m calling it my “Daydreaming of Italy” series.

First up, Antica Corte Pallavicina.

This historic property on the Po river in northern Italy features a one Michelin star restaurant, La Hosteria where they have more causal dining, and their simple country chic rooms. We visited ages ago, back in 2017, while location and activity scouting for my custom Doing Italy tours. (It’s one of the best part of the job!)

Just getting there was an adventure in itself with the winding roads through teeny tiny Italian villages, notoriously confusing Italian road signs, and overgrown vegetation that opened up to this picture perfect slice of Northern Italian farming history.

The cellars of Antica Corte Pallavicina were built in 1320 by the marquesses of Pallavicina. They were used for curing salumi and maturing cheeses, for ageing their wines and storing the produce from their lands. In keeping with their ancient history, the Antica Corte Pallavicina produces highly prized culatello di zibello. So good that celebrities, royalty, and internationally acclaimed restaurants alike order culatello ham from them years in advance waiting for them to age and cure as only possible in this particular region of Italy.

Besides, eating to our hearts content, we borrowed bikes from the hotel and spent a day riding along the Po river. It was one of those super calm and relaxing escapes from the city, just an hour and a half from Milan but seemingly lifetimes away.
